PRIDE Through the Years (Timeline)

Through the years, Lubbock has had our share of highs and lows within the LGBTQ+ community.  From the "Gay Bust" in 1969 on the Texas Tech University campus, the formation and decline of SPARC (South Plains AIDS Resource Center), the founding of PFLAG Lubbock, to the first openly lesbian student candidate for Homecoming Queen, the events listed here represent resilience and endurance.

The timeline is a sense of truth telling. When you begin to look at the local, state, and national events that shaped our community you step back in time, wondering how far back our history really goes. One thing that is true, you see the contributions of many doing the work towards a more just space and place.  In some cases, we were outed against our will and faced hardships that we thought no one could ever understand.  We have gone from out of the closet and into the streets.  We have been tested amongst the psychologist and came out the other side.  The health of our community needs us to fight still today.
